Identifying what caused a major change in Hannah Baker is would have to include more than one thing. I think what really helped her to go down hill, was the date with Marcus Cooley at Rosie's Diner. Hannah was willing to trust him, she thought he really liked her. When Marcus tried to feel on Hannah's legs, that really sent her spiraling down. Her trust was broken again. Then after she sat there, after Marcus left, Zach came over, but Hannah was not about to trust another person. After that scene, I think Hannah really needed someone, some encouragement, but instead, she got her notes stollen out of her bag in Peer Communications class. Hannah new that someone, even if only one person, had sent her at least one encouraging word. But now, she would never know, because Zach, was stealing the notes out of her bag. Just one more thing to add to everything else wrong in her life, he took away the one chance that maybe someone it that class could have said to lift her spirits. But lets not forget Ryan Shaver of The Lost and Found Gazette. Remember Ryan stole Hannah's notebook with all of her poetry in it and published her poem " Soul Alone " and everyone in the school had read it . People knew she had written it, but she was not about to let anyone know it was her. There, another reason that caused a major change within Hannah. Each of these situations contributed to the major changes in Hannah Baker, and they each share a quality within themselves, mistrust. I guess i see it as Hannah ended up with noone to turn to, her trust had been violated so many times, that she had noone to turn to. When her visible changes occured, noone noticed, if they did, they did not say anything, so it seemed to Hannah that noone cared, no one. This blog is just in my words, let me know what you think.

I believe you are absolutely correct... she really needed someone to lift her spirits and I wonder if the book would have ended differently if that happened.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. Very careful reading, Detective Linda.
